The short answer
A MAG box uses a portal URL tied to its MAC address, which the provider registers — there is no app and no username to type. An Enigma2 receiver uses bouquet files uploaded to the box. Send us the MAC from your MAG’s system screen, or your Enigma2 model, and we set it up from our side.
Why these are different
Almost every IPTV guide assumes you have a streaming stick running an app. MAG boxes and Enigma2 receivers predate that model and work the other way round: instead of an app asking the server for a line-up, the box is registered with the provider and told where its portal lives.
Practical consequences:
- There is nothing to install and no password to type on a remote.
- Your MAC address is the identity, not a username — so it must be registered before anything works.
- Changing the box means re-registering the new MAC.
- These boxes are typically wired, which is why people who use them rarely complain about buffering.
Setting up a MAG box
- Find the MAC address. On the box: Settings → System Settings → About, or read the sticker underneath. It looks like
00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. - Send it to us. Message it on WhatsApp with your order. We register it against your subscription.
- Enter the portal. On the box: Settings → System Settings → Servers → Portals. Put the portal name in the first field (anything) and the portal URL we send in the second.
- Save and reboot the box. The line-up loads on startup.
If the box boots to a blank portal, it is nearly always one of three things: the MAC was registered with a typo, the portal URL is missing its trailing path, or the box is on a different MAC than the one you sent (some MAGs show a different MAC for wired and wireless — send the one you will actually use).
Setting up Enigma2
Enigma2 receivers — Dreambox, Vu+, Zgemma and similar — use bouquet files rather than a portal.
- Find your box’s local IP address from its network settings.
- Open that IP in a browser on your computer to reach the web interface.
- Upload the bouquet files we provide, or add them over FTP to
/etc/enigma2/. - Reload the channel list from the web interface, or reboot the receiver.
Tell us your exact model when you order; bouquet layout differs between images (OpenATV, OpenPLi and so on) and we would rather send the right files than have you troubleshoot the wrong ones.
Is this hardware still worth using?
An honest assessment, because most people buying today should not start here.
| In favour | Against |
|---|---|
| Rock solid once configured — set and forget | No app ecosystem; the interface is dated |
| Usually wired, so fewer buffering problems | Changing provider means re-registering a MAC |
| Low power, runs for years | Older models are HD only, no 4K |
| A real remote and a proper channel-up button | Setup needs the provider’s involvement |
| Excellent if you already own one | A $40 Fire Stick is cheaper and more flexible |
If you already own a MAG or Enigma2 box, use it — it is supported and it works well. If you are buying hardware today, a Fire TV Stick 4K Max is cheaper, more capable and far easier to move between providers. See the Firestick guide.
What you give up
Compared with a modern player app, the portal route generally means a more basic guide, no recording, and catch-up that depends on the box’s firmware. If EPG and catch-up matter to you, check how your specific model handles them before committing.
Common problems
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Portal loads blank | MAC not registered, or registered wrong | Resend the MAC exactly as shown on the box |
| “Portal not found” | URL typed incompletely | Re-enter the full portal address |
| Worked, then stopped | Subscription expired, or the box’s MAC changed | Check the plan date; confirm wired vs wireless MAC |
| Channels load, no guide | Firmware EPG limits | Update the box firmware if available |
| Freezing on a wired box | Rarely the box | Symptom table |
Next steps
Find your MAC address or your Enigma2 model, send it to us on WhatsApp, and we will register the box and send the portal details. Plans are on the pricing page; every other device is covered in the setup guides.
