The short answer
TiviMate runs on Android, Android TV and Fire TV only — not iPhone, not Apple TV, not Samsung or LG. Install from the store, add your playlist with Xtream Codes, then spend ten minutes on channel groups and favourites. That ten minutes is the whole reason to use TiviMate.
Who it is for
TiviMate is the right player if you watch live TV most evenings on an Android or Fire TV device and want a guide you can actually read from the sofa. It is the wrong player if your household has iPhones and a Samsung TV, because it does not exist on those platforms — see the comparison for what to use instead.
Installing
- Fire TV: search the Amazon Appstore for TiviMate and install.
- Android TV / Google TV: Google Play Store.
- Android phone or tablet: Play Store, though TiviMate is designed for a remote and a big screen rather than touch.
The free version is fully usable for live TV. Premium is a separate purchase made inside the app.
The first-run wizard
On first launch TiviMate asks you to add a playlist. Choose Xtream Codes:
- Server URL — complete, with
http://and the port number. This field causes almost every failed login. - Username and Password — exactly as issued.
- Give the playlist a name and let it download.
Then wait for the EPG to finish. A full 7-day guide across a large line-up takes a minute or two on first load, and judging the app before it completes is the most common early complaint. More on how the guide and catch-up work.
The ten minutes that matter
A line-up of tens of thousands of channels is unusable until you shape it. TiviMate is the best tool there is for this, so use it.
- Settings → Playlists → your playlist → Channel groups. Untick every country group you will never watch. The list immediately becomes navigable.
- Add favourites. Long-press a channel → Add to favourites. Aim for the thirty you actually watch.
- Reorder them. Settings → Channels → drag your most-watched to the top so channel 1 is something you want.
- Set the default group to Favourites so the app opens where you live.
- Settings → Appearance: pick the EPG layout and channel-list density you prefer. The timeline view is what most people want on a TV.
Playback settings
| Setting | Set it to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Decoder | Hardware | Software decoding overheats sticks and stutters above 1080p |
| Buffer size | Small (2–3 s) | A larger buffer slows channel changes and only delays a freeze |
| Auto-frame rate | On, if your TV supports it | Matches 50/60 Hz content properly, which smooths sport |
| Keep screen on | On | Stops the device sleeping mid-match |
Is Premium worth it?
Premium is a one-off or yearly purchase paid to TiviMate, not to us. It adds:
- Recording to internal storage or a USB drive — the most reliable DVR of any IPTV player.
- Multiple playlists at once, useful if you are comparing providers.
- Picture-in-picture and multi-view on supported devices.
- Scheduled recordings from the guide.
Honest answer: if you only watch live and never record, the free version is genuinely enough. If you want to record a match to watch later, Premium is the cheapest DVR you will find. Decide after a week on the free build, not before.
Recording, practically
Recording is a player feature. No provider can switch it on or off, and anyone selling “DVR included” is describing the app you chose. On a Fire Stick, record to a USB drive via an OTG adapter rather than internal storage — sticks have very little free space and a full device stutters at everything.
Common problems
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist will not add | Missing port in the server URL | Add :port |
| Guide is empty | EPG still downloading | Wait, then Settings → EPG → refresh |
| Guide is wrong by hours | Time zone | Settings → EPG → time shift |
| Channels in the wrong groups | Provider group names | Hide groups, use favourites instead |
| Sluggish on a Fire Stick HD | 1 GB RAM with a huge list | Hide groups; consider a 4K Max |
| Everything buffers | Not the app | Symptom table |
Other providers that run well in TiviMate
TiviMate works with any Xtream Codes provider. These document their TiviMate setup clearly:
- Nartiel8K — has clear setup guides for Fire TV, Android TV and TiviMate.

Next steps
Install, add the playlist with Xtream Codes, then do the ten minutes on groups and favourites — that is what separates TiviMate from everything else. Fire TV owners should also read the Firestick guide for the device settings. No credentials yet? Request a trial.
